A smile can bring a lot of benefits to a person. Not only will it enhance one’s facial features, smiling is also believed to improve one’s health. Would you rather frown or flash a wonderful smile?
While smiling may seem to be an easy task there are individuals who by certain circumstances are not able to show off their smile. This maybe because of a number of reasons and by not doing so their self confidence is affected as well.
Good thing there are developing trends in cosmetic dentistry which are highly in demand right now. Cosmetic dentistry is believed to be the way to get the best smile. It basically covers procedures to enhance the appearance of your teeth by fixing the problem and providing people with a radiant smile.
It is however important to note that several organizations such as the American Dental Association does not recognize cosmetic dentistry as a specialized field in the dental profession. The procedures done can range from basic to complicated ones depending on the severity of the problem.
Different Types of Cosmetic Dentistry Procedures
What exactly are you looking to fix in order to gain back the confidence of flashing a smile? Do you want to have whiter teeth or have your chipped tooth repaired? Here are some of the common cosmetic dentistry procedures:
- Veneers – they are considered to be a more affordable option rather than crowns. The procedure involves using porcelain material that is cemented over the teeth in order to alter its shape or color. Crowns on the other hand take more time and quite expensive. Veneers can give you the same outcome but with an affordable price.

- Bleaching – commonly known as teeth whitening is probably the most popular cosmetic dentistry procedure. Stained or a discoloration on one’s teeth can be caused by a number of factors. With bleaching, the teeth become whiter or restored to its original shade. Nowadays there are at-home kits available in stores. Teeth whitening is not a one step procedure, you will need to go back to the dentist for follow up treatments.

- Tooth Alignment – this is the best option for individuals with spaced or crowded teeth. It restores the teeth to its natural position; one popular choice is the Invisalign.

- Bonding – is the procedure that can be done with just one visit to the dentist’s office. This is normally used to fill in gaps or small cavities. The only downside of this procedure is that the material is more prone to being stained or chipped.

In case you might be interested to have one of these procedures done, it is best to consult and seek the advice of your dentist first in order to have a better understanding of the treatment, its benefits and disadvantages as well.

hi dave! i would like to know about the laser teeth whitening procedure, di ba magfafall din sya sa bleaching method above? i never visited a dentist for consultattion but i have plans to go and take the laser whitening. kailangan ba ito ng madaming sessions or once lang? how many weeks naman usually ang intervals? i will go home (in Pinas) soon and i only have limited time pa sa next sessions.. thanks
Hi there ER! actually laser teeth whitening and bleaching are different procedures…However, Both teeth whitening with bleaching trays and laser whitening give similar results over a long period of time. The main difference is the length of time that the treatment takes. Laser whitening can give you fantastic results in just 1-2 hours. Bleaching trays require you to be very compliant in wearing the trays if you want to get good results. You would need to wear the trays for 1-2 hours every night for 10-14 days to achieve the same result as two hours of laser.
The only problem I see with Laser bleaching is that the teeth can become over heated during the procedure and can lead to nerve damage if not done properly. I think laser whitening called Zoom ( which i am not sure kung meron na dito sa pinas) is safer because there is NO heat involved and the light helps activate the gel. Trays will do the same thing over time, it’s just that the Zoom reduces the amount of time that you would wear the trays. So balitaan moko ER! take care!
Cosmetic dentistry has become really affordable these days unlike before. Even group buying sites like Groupon is now offering coupons for it!
