A lot of women after pregnancy or sometimes during puberty develop stretch marks. These are most especially seen on the lower belly or just between the belly button.
These marks are obviously “not-cool” most especially when you want to go out and wear your favorite bikinis at the beach. Also, it may cause people to become self-conscious and develop lower self-esteem. Although some stretch marks fade away with time, some may become permanent and look like visible scars on the skin.
What is a Stretch Mark?
Stretch marks occur when there is a rapid tearing or stretching of the deep dermal layer of the skin. It is commonly seen during periods of growth, significant weight gains or losses and post pregnancy. Stretch marks typically occur on the abdomen but may also be found in areas like on the breasts, flanks, or even to buttocks and arms.
Causes of Stretch Marks
- Child birth
- Weight gains and losses
- Puberty (growth)
- Hormonal changes
- Large implants ( breast implant)
- Body building
- Inappropriate use of steroidal creams
- Medications ( anti-depressants and contraceptive drugs)
Stretch Marks Treatment
Unfortunately, there are no products like creams and solutions that work on stretch marks. According to most experts, stretch marks are permanent. It can only be removed surgically through Abdominoplasty or Tummy tuck. However, it is not always the best option because not all patients are good candidates for the operation. Some experts recommend:
- High-tech Medical Lasers such as Pulsed Dye Laser as well as other lasers such as Fraxel, Excimer, and Erbium lasers. However, lasers will not remove stretch marks, but it may improve the texture and color of the stretch marks thus minimizing their appearance.
NOTE: Lasers are an excellent treatment in fading these areas when the body does not or has not done so in an acceptable length of time. Research suggests that earlier intervention may enhance outcomes. Lasers can help with the darker color when they are new but they don’t completely remove the damaged skin, they just make it less noticeable.
Tips on how to prevent stretch marks
There are a number of ways to prevent stretch marks:
1. Avoid large weight gains during pregnancy- Large weight gains does not only cause stretch marks, but they are not healthy for both the baby and mother. For instance, abnormal weight gains may cause gestational diabetes ( diabetes during pregnancy) which may lead to certain complications.
2. Avoid large breast implants- Breast augmentation using large implants can stretch the skin, causing it to form stretch marks along the top and sides of the breast.
3. Avoid repeated weight gains and losses- In stretching to accommodate increased body weight, the dermal fibers can rip, causing stretch marks.
4. Use topical vitamin E and A to protect and prevent the skin from developing stretch marks- Vitamin E oil is typically applied onto the skin after a shower to promote elasticity.

Ayon kasi sa nakausap kong dr. wala talagang treatment sa stretch marks, except abdominoplasty or tummy tuck… its considered permanent na kasi…pero there are various treatments which can lighten your marks…Sa belo they are offering Skin master and the price per session is Php3, 360. They can also recommend Microdermabrasion /Power peel – PhP2, 800 per session. or C.I.T. or collagen induction therapy. It is Php 22,400.00 (optional: +Php5, 600 for anesthesia). Ingat Strauberry and dont forget to share this site!
hi Dave so you mean wala tlgang way para matanggap stretch marks aside sa tummy tuck?
Hi Ness! musta na? according sa 3 doctors na pinagtanungan ko it’s already permanent unless you remove it surgically…pero to be sure it’s better if you consult a doctor para mabigay din nila opinion nila sau…I’m not sure about Kay belo ha…ang Sabi kasi sakin, most stretch mark treatments in the market are only intended for making the marks less noticeable…To be sure, I encourage you to book an appointment sa derma and ting an natin Kung Tama nga cnabi sakin hehe. Balitaan mo nalang ako ha…ingat ka!
hi, dave
interesado ako kung meron ka alam na nagbibigay training for microdermabfasion, chemical peeling? pls email me. appreciate it. many thanks…
Hi rose. senxa ha pero i am not aware if there are any available trainings for those procedures…usually pag nahire ka sa isang face and body clinic saka ka ihhire…Pero im not sure ha.
I’m only 15 and I lost too much weight so I have stretch marks even in my breast. Thank you. this would be of great help.
Hi taylor.I am not really sure about the best product to remove stretch marks…Usually stretch marks are permanent, and laser therapies make them less noticeable. Or usually pag sa tummy, tummy tuck ang ginagawa…But you can temporarily hide it with concealers though…Eto view mo sa youtube…Yung name ng product is right to bare legs. Im not sure kung meron dito sa pinas eh…:

Many thanks and take care..
Hi Annenavarra! usually one session lang ang tummy tuck, it’s actually a surgical procedure…Ah may excess skin ka p pala..tummy tuck is an invasave (surgical) procedure kasi…I suggest na magpaconsult ka sa plasic surgeon para mabigyan ka ng other options to tighten that skin…Meron din kasing mga laser treatments…Also, have you heard of thermage? Liposuction may also work…However, keep in mind that that treatment is based on each patients anatomy that’s why it is imperative that you really see a surgeon for proper assessment…And lastly, have you tried doing abdominal exercises? effective naman yun at tipid pa! hehe. you just have to be patient while waiting for the results…eto you can read and share baka makatulong:

Removing stretch marks is not an easy task that is why from the start we must aware about this but this things can’t be stop but we can prevent this to some different ways. In my Experience, I was very concerned about getting stretch marks when I was pregnant with my first child but I already expected this things so I ask my doctor how to prevent this and he gives me only a Belly Oil and I am so grateful that i did, every woman should know about it!
Hi dave how about sa legs and butt ng ka stretchmark? and wala pa ako anak i think dahil sa changing weight ako ngkaron ng stretchmark luckily color white nmn stretchmark ko pero may umbok eh. so what procedure do u think na pwede sakin? and san clinic na affordable?
thanks
Ill just share my experience here, im treating my stretchmarks now. When im pregnant i used the palmers stretchmArks cream, sobrang dami ko ginamit for prevention pero nag fail.. Now, nag chemical peel ako and laser and nag improve stretchmarks ko.. Im halfway their.. Anyway sa gusto mag lighten stretchies nila, try retinoic acid lotion. It will help pero matagal kasi lotion. Usually sa mga derma or skin clinics may binebenta nun. Kung gusto nyo mabilisan, laser can do or of course surgery talaga..
Thank you Daniel for sharing! you’re a big help…sana maging okay ang treatment mo for your stretch marks…

Hi there Miki! creams are usually used to prevent and treat newly developed stretch marks…yes! laser therapy is okay…you can try fraxel or erbium lasers..number of sessions? depende eh…depende sa marks mo and sa response ng skin mo…nagpaconsult ka na ba? paconuslt ka muna po ha? balitaan moko…ingat!
stretch marks are permanent unfortunately. you can only make their appearance less obvious. you can collagen induction therapy aka micro-needling or through the use of dermaroller. kung namamahalan ka, you can buy your own roller (1.55mm) and do the dermarolling yourself.
