Laser technology has been very useful these days, most especially in plastic surgeries. During my childhood days, I only see laser beams as powerful weapons to beat the bad guys. Otherwise, in today’s generation, laser beams are the new heroes!

Laser does not only treat skin abnormalities such as warts, varicose veins, and acne, it can also be used to enhance the skin or even fix a deformed-ugly nose. Unlike the traditional Rhinoplasty, it does not involve invasive procedures- no cuts, wounds and blood. The treatment is done through the heat produced from the laser. Thus, laser Rhinoplasty is mainly considered as a medical procedure rather than a surgical one.

Things you need to know about Laser Rhinoplasty

A laser rhinoplasty is only applicable for few instances. Thus, not all nose deformities can be fixed, the treatment has its own limitation. Below are some information that you need to consider when getting a laser rhinoplasty:

  • It is a non-surgical procedure, meaning no reconstructions done on your nose’s bones and cartilages.
  • Unlike other non-surgical nose jobs, laser Rhinoplasty does not require  injections of cosmetic fillers which can only last for a year or two.
  • Bleeding and scarring are completely eliminated.
  • The skin of the nose, most especially the nasal tip, is the main target.
  • Severe acne or Rhinophyma can significantly create thickened and bumped skin then eventually deforming the nose. With laser treatment, the skin is made even.

  • The heat emitted by the laser destroys the top layers of the skin, correcting and resurfacing the bumps.
  • A Carbon Dioxide or CO2 laser is commonly used to remove thick layers of skin with minimal heat damage to the surrounding structures.
  • During the laser treatment, a warmth and tingling sensation can be felt. Pain is very minimal, though a local anesthesia can still be used.
  • Natural shedding of the skin occurs after it is burned, healing takes place at this point.
  • Treat it as getting a “sunburn”, use only mild soap to clean the area. Do not rub vigorously.
  • Throughout the recovery process, the burned skin is eventually replaced by a new, thinner and smoother skin.

Who are Ideal Candidates for Laser Rhinoplasty?

  • Younger patients who does not smoke. Smoking may slow down healing process by slowing the flow of blood to the skin.
  • Fit and healthy patients may have positive benefits. However, many patients aged 40 above can also receive a great deal of benefit from the treatment.
  • Patients who are suffering from blood clotting disorders or diabetes (insulin dependent) are not ideal candidates for laser rhinoplasty treatment.

Cost of Laser Rhinoplasty

  • The procedure likely has a  average cost of $2000 to $6000. Depending upon the location, the doctor’s fee, medical facilities and the area to be treated, the cost would greatly vary.

Keep in mind that this procedure is not always the best solution to anyone who wants a completely restructured nose. It only applies in special cases. The severity of nose deformities greatly vary in different degree, some surgeons might recommend a rhinoplasty surgery instead of getting the non-surgical one.
