Negligence Malpractice|Hospital and Home Care
Negligence is simply defined as “not doing the right thing to do”. Carelessness usually makes a person negligent. Whether you are a professional or not, if you deviate from the standard of care that you should adhere, you are considered negligent. On the other hand, malpractice is defined as a type of negligence, in which a professional fails to follow the standard of care that a professional should do. Like for instance, a nurse or a doctor has committed malpractice if they have not given the right treatment, thus resulting to damages.
As the saying goes, “ Nobody is perfect!” – as much as we can, we should always do what we are ought to do. I am a registered nurse and I can attest to that. I have worked in the Emergency room unit for quite some time and witnessed the true facet of negligence and malpractice.
Malpractice in hospitals, above all, is very rampant. Sometimes, it depends on the quality of trainings and standards that the hospital implements; but most of the time it is about the professional’s human instinct and decision- If you are not careful and focused, malpractice will definitely occur.
Certain errors such as mis-diagnosis, misinterpretation of laboratory tests, medication errors, and incompetent surgeries are very common malpractices in hospitals. Because of these, complications and worsening of the patient’s condition arise.
Of course there are always reasons behind these circumstances. In hospitals, under staffing and overworking of employees contribute to the lack of proper care. Also, weak trainings and incompetent hospital standards could greatly affect the rising negligence and malpractice in most health care institutions.
These situations, I think are truly inevitable- It can happen anytime. No matter how you make things perfect- accidents could happen. Standards and protocols could be made perfectly, but could never be perfectly practiced. The best thing to do is prevent these instances to happen. If it happens- learn and correct the mistakes. < END> negligence and malpractice|hospital and home care
